Pavlína Netková has prepared a review of the 70-litre Kilpi BIGGY-U backpack for you.

Kilpi BIGGY-U hiking backpack review

The Kilpi BIGGY-U hiking backpack with a total volume of seventy litres is an ideal partner for all weekend or longer trips. At first glance, it can be seen that it was created by lovers of hiking and thanks to its lightness, volume, material, pockets and side straps, perfection is worn.

The backpack is made in three colours blue, black and red. At first glance, the BIGGY-U Blue won me over, which will dazzle you from a distance with a great combination of two shades of blue and grey. The material of this backpack is a ripstop nylon fabric, which is strong and resistant to mechanical damage and abrasion. So you don't have to worry about the backpack after a long and demanding day, you can literally hurl it on the ground. As we all know, we sometimes carry a fifteen-kilo weight and thus such a load is made easier for us to carry with the back system with soft 3D padding which keeps the centre of gravity close to the back and thus makes it easier to wear even at full load. The flow of air between the back and the backpack is enabled by the so-called perforated ventilation zone, and with the help of Velcro, the entire backpack can be adapted to the figure.

Comfortable walking is ensured by several adjustable straps and robustly padded shoulder straps, which can also be easily adjusted to any figure. Perhaps the most important on the hiking backpack are the chest and lumbar straps that the BIGGY-U has fully mastered. Kilpi has not forgotten to put a great catch on the chest strap, the signal whistle. The chest strap is also height and width adjustable. The lumbar strap contains perfectly accessible zip pockets, which can fit my oversized iPhone 12, knife and handkerchiefs. We can fix the balance straps in the lumbar area and shoulders and thus ensure stability for comfort during walking.

Being able to roll it up and place it in your backpack on longer treks is critical. It is necessary that we properly arrange its place in the backpack and do not delay with any unnecessary unpacking and packing. Every hiker will definitely use the side pockets with straps for a 1.5 litre bottle, the front zip pocket with quick access, fixation straps, elastic loops to which telescopic poles can be attached and, last but not least, a stretch pocket on the front of the backpack. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the top zip pocket, which offers another five litres, where you have everything, you need at hand. It fits a quick snack, a light jacket, a raincoat, personal belongings, and even a small book.

Inside the backpack you will find a single-chamber construction with top filling, which facilitates access to the contents of the backpack, and despite closing the inner false bottom, we get a second chamber with separate access through the outer zipper opening. A hydro bladder can be placed in the main chamber, inside the backpack. At the bottom of the backpack you will find fastening straps for a tent or mat. Personally, my mat and tent are so small that I mainly use these straps to quickly hang a towel or a jacket that I need to dry or want to pack away quickly.

The backpack does not lack reflective elements and it has a raincoat integrated into it for those rainy days (which I hope will be very few during my trip).
